Important Information to Know When Using Your Card

Please read the helpful information below about using your Card to help you get the most from your Card and eliminate declined transactions.

The Card that you received at the time of purchase at participating Canada Post location is your temporary card and cannot be reloaded or used at ATM’s or for recurring payments. Use your temporary Card to make purchases only until you receive your personalized Card in the mail. Once your personalized Card is activated using the instructions below, simply cut up your temporary Card as it will automatically be closed. Your personalized Card is reloadable and can be used at ATM’s and for recurring payments. It is not for use for gambling.

When You Receive Your New Personalized Reloadable Card:

Acceptance of Your Card
Use your Card wherever Visa* cards are electronically accepted, even online and get access to cash at any ATM displaying the Visa symbol.

Activate Your New Card & Set Up Your PIN
Before you can use your new personalized Card, you need to activate it and get a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for cash access. Once you’ve received this initial PIN you can change it to one of your own liking. To activate your new card, follow the steps below:

Step 1:

 Call Cardholder Services at 1-866-760-1543.

Step 2:

 Enter your 16-Digit Card number.

Step 3:

Authenticate yourself by entering your month and day of birth. Enter this information as MMDD (i.e. if you were born on December 4th, you would enter "1204")

Step 4:

Once your information has been verified, you will:

• Be advised that your Card is now active 
• Be advised of your current Card balance 
• Be assigned a 4-digit PIN. Remember and record this PIN and keep it separate from your Card at all times, or wait to change your PIN to one of your choosing as outlined in Step 5.

Step 5:

While you are still on the phone, you have the option of changing your assigned PIN to a more easily remembered number. Using your touch tone phone, follow the prompts to enter your own 4-digit PIN.

You may change your PIN at any time by calling Customer Service at 1-866-760-1543 or by logging into this website.

Step 6:

When your PIN is confirmed, simply hang up. Your new personalized Card is now active and replaces your previous Card which will no longer work. Any remaining funds on your previous Card will automatically be transferred to your new Card which is now ready for use.

Set Up Your Account at www.myprepaidcard.ca
If you haven’t done so already with your temporary Card, sign up for an online account so you can view your balance, transactions and maintain your personal profile all for free. If you have already set up your online account using your temporary Card, then simply use the same username and password for your personalized Card.

If you haven’t set up your online account yet, go to www.myprepaidcard.ca and click on the "Need a Login?" link. Follow the prompts for personal and security information and select a user name and password.

Always Know Your Card Balance
Just like a credit card, merchants have no access to your Card balance. Always keep track of your balance in order to tell the merchant how much to charge to your Card to avoid a declined transaction.

Track your balance and transaction history by:
1. Using this website to check your balance and transaction history.
2. Calling Cardholder Services at 1-866-760-1543.
3. Using the free zenwallet™ app. Download at Google Play and/or App Store.

How to Add Money to Your Card
You can reload your personalized Card until the Card expires. There are limits on the amount you may load at any one time, as outlined in the Disclosure Statement of Fees and Limits. Add money to your Card with:

• Cash or debit at participating Canada Post locations. The amount you load will be instantly available.
• A bill payment transfer from your bank. Enjoy the convenience of reloading your Card from work or home and add money directly from your bank account by making a bill payment to the vendor name “Canada Post Visa Card”. The amount you load will be available in 1-3 days. Not all financial institutions may allow this feature so check with your bank to ensure this bill payment option is available for you.

How to Withdraw Cash from Your Card
Use your personalized Card and PIN to withdraw cash at any ATM displaying the Visa symbol or take your personalized Card to any Visa issuing financial institution to make a over the counter cash advance (subject to fees and limits, as outlined in the Disclosure Statement of Fees and Limits).

For purchases greater than your Card balance (Split Payments)
Merchants do not know your card balance so they can’t automatically deduct the remaining balance off your card. You must tell the merchant before the transaction begins if you want to make a purchase for an amount greater than the remaining balance;

1) Let the merchant know the exact amount to charge to your card, and then
2) Provide another form of payment for the remainder of the bill.

If the merchant can’t accept more than one form of payment, please use another form of payment for the entire bill. If the merchant tries to charge to your card an amount more than the remaining balance, the transaction will be declined.

Merchant Authorizations on Your Card
Authorizations by a merchant are deducted from the available balance on your Card immediately and held until the actual settlement with the merchant occurs, or for seven (7) days, whichever is less. So if you ask a merchant to make an authorization and then cancel the transaction, the amount could be held for up to seven (7) days before the funds are released. If the amount authorized is more than the actual purchase amount, only the actual purchase amount will be deducted from your available balance once final settlement with the merchant occurs. This takes two (2) or three (3) days in most cases.

Merchant Returns on Your Card
If you refund something on your Card, it can take two (2) to three (3) days for the funds to appear on your Card balance.

Using Your Card at Restaurants and Other Selected Merchants
When using your Card at restaurants and other service-oriented merchants, your Card balance must be at least 15% greater than the value of your bill. These types of merchants will factor in an additional 15% in pre-approval only to cover any tip you may leave on the purchase - but you only pay the amount you sign for, which could be more or less than this pre-approval.

This same rule applies to hotels, taxis/limousines, health and beauty spas, and cruise lines. For car rentals, it is a 20% tolerance. However, we do not recommend using your Prepaid Card for authorizations at car rentals or hotels as it may take up to 30 days for any held amounts to be added back to your available balance.

Using Your Card at Unattended Terminals
Unattended terminals include parking lot pay terminals, pay phones and pay at the pump terminals. Your Card may not work at these terminals because of their security requirements.

Using Your Card Online
Keep your address up to date by using www.myprepaidcard.ca as this will increase the likelihood of card acceptance at online sites. Vancity Community Investment Bank requires online merchants to use all necessary authentication methods to verify online and mail order transactions. We cannot guarantee your Card will work on all websites due to the various security features of global websites. This Card cannot be used at online gambling sites.
